Simply Supported Beam with Point Load at Any Location — Shear & Moment Diagram

This tool provides the shear and bending moment diagrams for a simply supported beam subjected to a single concentrated load located at any point along the span. The formulas automatically adjust based on the load position, showing the piecewise behaviour of shear and moment on either side of the applied force.

This scenario is common in real structures:

  • point loads from mechanical units

  • posts bearing on beams

  • transfer loads

  • equipment support loads

  • localized reactions from framing members

The diagram includes reaction equations, maximum shear values, and bending moment expressions for the left and right sides of the applied load. The model follows standard assumptions: pinned ends, linear-elastic response, and no rotational stiffness at supports.

Engineers use this case for quick sizing, verifying hand calculations, and validating finite-element or software-generated results.
